Step-by-Step Counselling Process 2026
Detailed Guide to Maharashtra NEET UG Centralized Admission Process (CAP)
Online Registration & Fee Payment
Candidates must register on the official CET CELL website and pay the non-refundable counseling fee. This is a one-time process mandatory for all participants.
Publication of Provisional Merit List
Based on the NEET scores and data provided during registration, the CET Cell releases the State Merit List (SML). This list determines your position among Maharashtra candidates.
Online Choice Filling (Preference Form)
This is the most critical stage. Candidates need to fill in their choices of colleges and courses (MBBS/BDS) in order of preference. Note: Preferences filled once are used for multiple rounds.
CAP Round Allotment
The CET Cell releases the seat allotment result based on your Merit Rank and Preferences. You can check your allotment status by logging into the portal.
Physical Document Verification & Admission
Once a seat is allotted, the candidate must report to the respective college for physical verification of original documents and payment of tuition fees to confirm the seat.
Status Retention or Upgradation
Candidates can either fill a Status Retention Form to freeze their seat or opt for Upgradation in the next round to try for a better college preference.
Why Maharashtra is the Best Choice for NEET Admission?
Despite the strict bond conditions, Maharashtra remains a dream destination for medical aspirants across India. Here is why choosing Maharashtra for your MBBS/BDS is a smart move:
Massive Clinical Exposure: Maharashtra has some of the busiest Government Hospitals in Asia (like KEM, JJ, and Sion). Students get to see a diverse range of medical cases, which is unmatched by any other state.
ย Highest Number of Government Seats: With over 32+ Government Medical Colleges (GMCs), Maharashtra offers the highest number of affordable seats for state domicile students.
ย Unbeatable Scholarship Schemes: Maharashtra is the only state that provides heavy fee concessions in Private Colleges. Under schemes like EBC and Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Scholarship, students from various categories (including General-EWS) get 50% to 100% tuition fee waivers.
ย Global Recognition: A degree from top Maharashtra institutions like Grant Medical College (Mumbai) or BJMC (Pune) carries immense value during PG admissions and international placements.
Advanced Infrastructure: Most private medical colleges in Maharashtra are established by huge educational trusts, offering world-class labs, libraries, and campus facilities.
ย Transparent Counseling (CAP): The State CET Cell follows a very systematic and fair Centralized Admission Process, ensuring that every deserving candidate gets a seat based strictly on merit.
